Why LED Light Fixtures Are the Future of Illumination
LED Lighting is Miles Ahead of Anything Else
In case you hadn’t noticed, LEDs – light-emitting diodes – have revolutionized light all around you. Those amazingly bright headlights on the new cars? LED. The backlighting on your amazing new Sony 86-inch TV? LED. The crisp, bright, beautiful screen on your iPad? You guessed it, LED.
LED technology has amazing advantages over any other kind of lighting. If you are considering new lighting of any type for your Dunwoody, GA, or Atlanta home, it's a no-brainer to go LED. Let's cover some of the incredible benefits of LED light fixtures below.

A Greener Future
People may have different opinions on future sources of energy and the effects of climate change, but everyone can agree that wasting energy is not something that makes much sense. LED lighting is 80% more efficient than incandescent lighting and remains cool to the touch, emitting much less heat. You might ask, what about CFL (compact fluorescent) lights? They are also efficient, but LEDs beat them by 30% or more too. Another green advantage: LED bulbs - with a two-decade lifespan for many fixtures with daily use - won't be filling up landfills any time soon. CFL bulbs require special disposal due to their mercury content and don't last even half as long as LED.
Instant, Bright Light
If you haven't updated your lighting in a year, there's a good chance you have a mix of CFL and incandescent lighting. CFL bulbs can be maddening for two reasons: When you turn a light on, it takes 30 seconds or more to get to full lumens. That means your closet stays relatively dim for the 30 seconds you have to find your shoes. LED lighting (like incandescent) is instant on; no waiting. Only special CFL bulbs are dimmable, while virtually all LED bulbs are dimmable. High-quality LED lighting is also precisely dimmable to the levels of incandescent bulbs, without the occasional buzzing from dimmers that didn't match the lighting load when using incandescent technology.
High CRI
Color rendering index, or CRI, is the ability of light to reveal true color. The higher the index, the better and more natural the light. Natural light scores 100, but high-quality LED lighting can achieve over 90, which is excellent. Have you ever taken an article of clothing nearer a window to see how the color really looks against sunlight? LED lights can give you that natural, accurate illumination for color.
Design Flexibility
Going back to cars, the colored light show offered in some of the latest cars (take a look at Mercedes) is all done with LED technology. The technology enables newer styles of lighting previously infeasible. At home, it has enabled beautiful accent lighting in coves, shelving, under counters, stairs, and many other uses. LED light styles are plentiful and flexible, allowing for much design flair with light. Plus, many LED lights can be installed with low-voltage wiring, another factor that enables more flexibility with lighting in challenging spaces.
