On-Wall or In-Wall?
Many media rooms and home theaters use wall-mounted vs. in-wall speakers. The reasons can be manifold, but some wall materials are hard to cut into, or there may not be the depth necessary to install fully in the wall. The SoundFrame can be installed on or in the wall. The slender 3.5-inch depth makes it easy to install either way. For installation ease, the speaker wire hides in the wall, enters the back of the speaker, and connects in the front.
Two-Channel or Surround?
SoundFrame speakers are suitable for any audio application. The SoundFrame 1 packs a 6.5-inch C-CAM bass driver (like the ones used in Monitor Audio freestanding models) and a pivoting 4-inch midrange/1-inch tweeter combo. It can be used as any speaker, left, center, right, or surround. But Monitor Audio makes some complementary models that are suitable multipurpose. The SoundFrame 2 also features a 3-way design with a longer form factor for use as a center channel under a display or as left and right speakers vertically mounted to flank a larger display. The SoundFrame 3 is a smaller 2-way speaker ideal for surround use or in smaller spaces for whole-home audio.
What’s Your Look?
The SoundFrame is an excellent fit for modern décor with its available high gloss white and black frames. For an on-wall installation that calls less attention to itself, the frames can be omitted for a sleeker look. But this is where it gets more interesting. The SoundFrame grills can be customized with a choice of images and colors from Monitor Audio’s library to make your speaker look like wall art.
