What is HTSA, and Why Does GHT Group Participate?

GHT Group Attends HTSA Spring Conference in Fort Lauderdale

As a leading technology integrator across the Southeast, GHT Group always wants to stay ahead of the curve. By the way, did you know where the phrase  "ahead of the curve" came from? No, it's not baseball; it means staying ahead of the bell curve, the statistical curve that describes the normal distribution of a set of data. Staying ahead of the curve means performing better than average or anticipating and adapting to trends and changes before everyone else does. That's exactly what HTSA is about, and that is why we recently attended the Spring conference in March. Now, if you're wondering what the heck is HTSA and why should you care, we're glad you asked! And we hope you keep reading below as we explain all that.

HTSA

Let's start with a fun fact. HTSA once stood for Home Theater Specialists of America, and it began as a trade group to advance the technical and business knowledge of its members. When it started, home theater, a trend that quickly grew in the 1990s, was one of the primary focuses for the membership. As the technology integration industry grew to encompass technologies beyond audio and video, the name changed to Home Technology Specialists of America. Here's another fun fact—a few years ago, we renamed our company from Georgia Home Theater to GHT Group for the same reasons—the business had evolved from audio and home theater to add lighting, automation, security, and much more.

HTSA membership brings many benefits and opportunities. It provides educational and training opportunities, access to the home technology industry’s leading vendors, exposure to emerging technologies, financial advantages, networking opportunities, and more. HTSA membership is also a mark of excellence in our field, as there are specific requirements to meet to be a part of the group. Today, the organization has hundreds of member companies in specialty retail and technology integration across 40 states in the U.S. and in Canada as well. HTSA is very much about helping its membership stay ahead of the curve in technology integration. They even use the term on their website—maybe we borrowed it here.

Why HTSA Membership is Important to GHT Group

The HTSA Spring conference is a training and networking opportunity for our leadership and team. One of the most important aspects is the direct communication with leading vendors. This year, we met with manufacturers like Control4, Sonance, and Sony—some of our biggest partners in terms of the products and solutions we integrate and the leaders in their respective industries. Not only do we get to hear about the latest technologies and new products, we also get to provide them with direct feedback on how to improve the products for home technology integration.

For our technical team, there are a myriad of opportunities to learn about new products, technologies, and the latest best practices. For our leadership, we get to share and discuss the challenges of the business, what works, what doesn’t, what clients are looking for, and much more. We return from these events a little smarter, recharged, and ready to tackle new challenges, all with the goal of improving the solutions and services we offer to our clients.
