The Quest for the Perfect Speaker

Every great loudspeaker brand has a founding story. Bowers & Wilkins has a founding pursuit. When John Bowers began building speakers in England in 1966, he wasn't chasing trends or price points. He loved music, and he wanted to hear it exactly as it was performed. That quest for the perfect speaker has guided the company for sixty years.

It's also why Bowers & Wilkins doesn't release a new series on a calendar. Re-engineering, retooling, and rebuilding a successful line are costly undertakings, so a new generation only arrives when there's a genuine performance story to tell. The 800 Series Diamond D5 is that story. It keeps the same unmistakable form, refined across hundreds of details you'd never notice by looking but will hear from the very first note.

The proof lives in the studio. The 800 Series Diamond has long been a trusted reference at Abbey Road Studios and Skywalker Sound, so many of the records you love were shaped on these very speakers. Bringing that same honesty into your high-performance audio listening room or home theater is what makes Bowers & Wilkins worth seeking out.

800 Series Diamond D5 vs. 700 Series

Both series share the same engineering DNA, and both belong in a serious listening room or home theater. The difference is how far each one goes. The 800 Series Diamond D5 is the Bowers & Wilkins reference line, the speakers recording engineers trust, and the finest the company has ever built. The 700 Series takes technology first developed for the 800 Series and brings it to a more accessible level, with genuine high-end sound in a classic, timeless cabinet. Whichever direction fits your space, our team will help you hear the difference for yourself.

800 Series Diamond D5

Diamond Dome Tweeter. Highs that stay open, detailed, and effortless, thanks to a diamond dome that performs far beyond the limits of human hearing.

Turbine Head. Voices and instruments that sound startlingly present, because the midrange is isolated from everything that could color it.

Reverse Wrap Cabinet. A single continuous curve, newly reinforced with Space Frame Bracing, so you hear the music rather than the box.

Four New Finishes. Stealth Black, Warm White, Light Walnut, and Dark Walnut, each paired with matching Leather by Connolly trim.

Available as floorstanding, standmount, and center channel models, from the flagship 801 D5 to the compact 805 D5.

700 Series

Carbon Dome Tweeter. Clean, refined highs from the best-performing non-Diamond tweeter Bowers & Wilkins has made.

Continuum Cone. The same midrange transparency first developed for the 800 Series, now in every 700 Series model.

Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top. The signature silhouette of the 800 Series, carried into the 702 and 705.

Available as floorstanding, standmount, and center channel models, including the flagship 702 S3.

Why GHT Is the Best Partner Behind Every B&W System

Anyone can buy a pair of speakers. Getting them to sound the way they did in the studio is another matter. Even the finest loudspeaker depends on the room around it: where it sits, what powers it, and how the space reflects and absorbs sound. That's where GHT comes in, and it's something buying direct can't offer.

GHT is the only Bowers & Wilkins Diamond dealer Atlanta and Birmingham listeners can visit, which means you can sit down with the 800 Series Diamond D5 at our Experience Centers and hear it before you decide. From there, we design the system around your room. That might be a dedicated two-channel listening space or a full home theater anchored by an HTM81 D5 center channel and paired with electronics from partners like McIntosh and Marantz. We handle placement, installation, and calibration, then walk through every detail with you at handoff.

And we don't disappear once the music starts. Since 1989, GHT has been family-run and owner-involved. We have a dedicated service team whose only job is caring for clients, 24/7 on-call technicians, a guaranteed 12 to 24-hour callback, and the GHT App to make any request simple. Choosing Bowers & Wilkins through GHT means choosing a partner for the long haul.

Engineered Piece by Piece

From across the room, an 800 Series Diamond speaker appears to be a single sculpted object. Look closer, and you'll find a precise assembly of drivers, housings, bracing, and damping, each engineered for one purpose: getting out of the way of the music. It's a bit like studying an exploded view of a fine automobile, where every axle, brake, and bearing has to come together flawlessly before the car ever moves.

Start at the top. The diamond dome tweeter sits in a Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top housing milled from a single block of aluminum to resist resonance. Just below, the Turbine Head isolates the midrange from the bass enclosure. Inside the cabinet, Matrix bracing and new aluminum Space Frame Bracing rails fortify the walls against vibration, while an upgraded plinth uses tuned-mass dampers matched to each individual model. Even the crossover is mounted on its own aluminum spine, shielding sensitive components from pressure inside the enclosure.

This is where the value of an 800 Series speaker lives. You're not paying for a box. You're investing in six decades of engineering, precisely assembled and built to last a lifetime.
